CHURCH EVENTS & OTHER EVENTS OF INTEREST

Invitation from Western Mass Task Team on Nuclear Abolition

Greetings,
In the fall of 2018, with the guidance of Kelly Gallagher, two of us clergy and two laity created a Task Team on the Abolition of Nuclear Weapons. We brought a Resolution to this effect to a number of local churches, and have, to date, a total of six congregations who have passed it, most being unanimous:
First Northampton; Edwards Northampton; Ashfield; West Cummington; Haydenville; First Amherst; and most recently, Hatfield.

In the meantime, at this past June Synod, we co-authored a denomination-wide version, which passed by an overwhelming majority of 97%. Today our hope is to spread this much needed vision for a nuclear free world.
Presently. Our Team is completing a four session course to recognize the scope of this urgent problem; and consider ways each one of us can participate in the growing movement.
As you readily can imagine, time is not on our side, for our world dangerously comes closer to either an accidental or intentional strike. As of 2020, nine nations together possess a total of 15,000, North Korea adding four to seven yearly.
Our prayer is that you’ll invite us to address your leadership-team, Council, or congregation on a Sunday during or after worship. Our Team of Doug Renick (Haydenville); Marty Sholtz (West Cummington); or myself (First, N’ton), look forward to connecting with you. To do so, contact me at popkakos9@gmail.com or 413-582-7050.
“Blessed are the peacemakers: they are God’s very own children.”
Ever Thankful, Peter Kakos
