100 Hear About Impact of RICUCC Ministries

Nearly 100 people from across the Rhode Island Conference and beyond gathered together in community on Saturday for the 212th Autumnal Meeting, where they worshiped, conducted business and heard about the impact of Conference ministries.

A large part of the meeting, held at the First Congregational Church in Bristol, focused on hearing about the impact of ongoing Conference ministries.

Irons Homestead Goes Solar

Irons Homestead began generating solar power on Tuesday as part of a vision of "lightening our footprint on earth and living in harmony with all."

The 29 solar panels were put in place in October on the Lodge, which in June had new lifetime roof shingles installed. The cost for the new roof and solar system was $46,800, which was paid for through invested funds designated for Irons Homestead.

It is estimated that the panels will produce $2,500 annually in revenue by selling the clean energy back to National Grid.

Irons Homestead is gratefully accepting donations toward the installation cost.  For a donation of $1600, donors can have their name placed on a solar panel and recorded in the Irons Homestead Book of Gratitude.  Donations of all sizes for this project are welcome and will also be recorded in the Book of Gratitude.

Donations can be made here.

Rhode Island church uses solar to promote environmental stewardship

The two-century-old Newman Congregational Church looks like a piece of history, standing on a grassy lawn in the Rumford neighborhood of East Providence. The white, wood-framed structure has a modern accent, though: an array of solar panels on its rooftop.

Many Voices One Mission: Exciting Stewardship

By Charlie Kuchenbrod, Executive Associate Conference Minister for the CT Conference, UCC

I love leading stewardship workshops.  Really, I do.  Part of it is that I’m not ordained, so I don’t preach often, and at workshops I get to preach.  Part of it is I get positive feedback and who doesn’t love that.  Mostly, I feel like I’m possibly, just maybe, having a positive impact.  Here are some of the things I love to say:

The job of the stewardship committee is not to get people to give more money; it is to get people be more faithful givers.

The stewardship committee often is placed in the church trustee/finance & budget constellation of people.  It belongs in the deacon/faith formation constellation of people.

What would Jesus drive? Jesus wouldn’t drive; he would take the bus.
